Personal development, especially important now!

More at ease in your job, wherever and for whomever you work. Intermediair took a quick look at the future world of work last week. Besides the many jobs that may be on the line, there are also companies experiencing a growth spurt. From work-from-home apps to online delivery services and Plexiglas suppliers.

Persevering together

Personal development, retraining and stimulating competency development are becoming important dials for both employee and employer to cope with the new labor developments. That it can be done at a rapid pace, we could already read in this article, in which numerous examples were given about the sustainable retraining of temporary workers, distribution workers and hospitality staff.

The current crisis forces people to think about their jobs. Perhaps for some, even a mandatory search for work that suits them better. And the latter is not a new trend. We wrote before about growing low employee engagement with all its consequences for the working community - such as higher absenteeism and reduced productivity.

Start small

Even on a small scale, you can get started now. At Plek, we believe that true engagement only works if you put the employee at the center. Not informing but engaging, not only sharing knowledge but also broadening one's horizons and stimulating social learning in addition to individual further training.

How exactly do you do that? By actively guiding employees, regularly asking them about their own wishes and ambitions. At Plek, for example, we do this in recurring personal development interviews and weekly one-on-one conversations with the manager. Let employees have a say in important issues and support them with specific questions or concerns. And you'll see, great things come out of that!
